5 TRENDS IN THE HOLIDAY RENTAL MARKET IN 2023

Sustainability is in fashion

Tourists have been changing their behaviour over the years and, as a result, they have been changing their demand and becoming more aware of sustainability.

As a result, they are committed to reducing their carbon footprint by using more public transport and looking for more sustainable accommodation. In fact, in 2022 already 70% of the Spanish travel community expressed this desire through a study conducted by Booking.com, as well as being reflected in activities and initiatives aimed at promoting more sustainable tourism as we saw at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in January 2023.

At Málaga Planners we try to make sure that any getaway for our tourists is as sustainable as possible, just as we do with each of our flats so that we continue to grow together and improve day by day.

Combining leisure with business

Bleisure combines the two Anglo-Saxon terms business and leisure, i.e. business with leisure, and is on our agendas all year round.

There have been record numbers of teleworkers and destinations that many travellers seek for business and end up staying for leisure. During this year 2023 we have seen a large increase in this type of trips in which our tourists take advantage of a business relocation and extend their stay to enjoy the city where they are.

In addition, these digital nomads have the perfect freedom to travel throughout the year and move their office wherever they want to have a new lifestyle that brings new possibilities to the sector.

At Málaga Planners we have plenty of flats with desks or tables ready to telecommute remotely and comfortably, as well as a good internet connection that allows them to connect with any part of the world.

Longer getaways

In the aftermath of the pandemic, we saw the Slow Travel movement become a trend in which tourists spend more time connecting with and getting to know their destination. As a result, their getaways started to be longer.

According to a report issued by Vrbo in 2021, stays of between 21 and 30 days were recorded and have continued to increase in the last year. In addition, tourists over the age of 40 were up to 4 times more likely to book trips of more than 1 week.

At Malaga Planners we have been able to see this growth reflected, as tourists prioritise leisure travel and their getaways are becoming more and more long term.

A more technological tourism

For more than a year now we have been hearing new terms such as metaverse or artificial intelligence, as well as seeing the existence of tourism through virtual reality.

These are the new ways of improving the tourist experience through technology. In addition, innovation linked to tourism is being sought in order to have more direct communication, provide information, reduce time...

In short, technology will become one more requirement for guests and at Málaga Planners we continue to grow day by day to support it.

More educational trips

For many years now, guests have been looking to combine their trips with educational activities, whether they are museums, galleries, historical places...

They are increasingly interested in the culture and history of the places they visit and according to a study conducted by Skyscanner on the trends of the year 2023, 46% of tourists surveyed said they would take a tour of the historical heritage in their next destination.

Therefore, at Málaga Planners we offer experiences that meet the needs of our guests and, in addition to guiding them and helping them with different tips or collaborations with companies dedicated to the sector, we offer welcome books in which they will find plenty of recommendations that will make their experience a 5-star one.
